Salou. Costa Dorada. 15 March 2025.
The first holiday season of 2025 is approaching: the long-awaited Easter, which this year also falls a little late, as we have to wait until mid-April. It's a bit long, yes, but we're getting closer with each passing day. So, to whet your appetite, Salou.com is sharing the latest developments in the capital of the Costa Daurada so you can make the most of its beaches and its gastronomic, cultural, and festive offerings. Let's get started!
The new things you'll find to enjoy in Salou this Easter 2025 are:
- Buïgas Avenue: new pedestrian area in the heart of Salou
One of Salou's main thoroughfares will complete the second phase of its renovation by Easter:
Avenida Carles Buïgas. This short break will be the perfect time to discover this street, which, according to
Salou's mayor, Pere Granados, will be the
longest pedestrian area in Salou, even longer than Passeig Jaume I, also known as the Palm Tree Promenade. It comprises
1,300 meters of commercial and residential avenue on a single level, with new lighting, new native vegetation, and spaces for relaxation.
This project, developed with European Next Generation funds , will help distribute the flow of visitors and boost the businesses and establishments on the avenue, in addition to improving the surrounding area, where some 2,000 people live.
- Recycled plastic street furniture to enjoy the sea
This Easter we will be able to admire the sea and the beach in a more conscious way from the benches and litter bins that have been installed in the Pilons viewpoint area, as they are built with recycled plastic collected from the sea.
Specifically, 5 benches and 5 waste bins have been installed, made from 1,000 kilos of plastic collected from the sea, according to the company Gravity Wave, which is promoting this project together with Mini Oliva Motor, which has donated the furniture to Salou City Council.
Salou is the first city in Catalonia to launch this pilot urban furniture project. This initiative is fully aligned with the City Council's commitment to environmental sustainability and the preservation of Salou's coast and natural spaces, which it has been developing for years.
- Allegorical sculpture “A Game of Love” in Sant Jordi Square
Easter will be the ideal time to admire, right next to the Salou Municipal Market, the remodeling of Sant Jordi Square, which also features the debut of the sculpture "A Game of Love" by Cambrils artist David Callau.
The set is inspired by the legend of Sant Jordi and consists of three elements: the dragon, Sant Jordi and the princess, and the dragon's tail, which will serve as a railing. The sculptural set will have a maximum height of 3.4 meters and is made of Corten steel and glazed ceramic. According to the author, "A game of love wants convey the importance of affection and connection between people”.
The sculpture's installation is the culmination of the plaza's renovation, which has included pavement repairs, expansion of green areas, replacement of mulberry trees with hackberry trees, planting of herbs, optimization of the irrigation system, and improved accessibility.
- The renovated Torre Vella
The works aim to consolidate the Torre Vella as a landmark of Salou's heritage and culture by improving accessibility with the installation of an elevator and expanding the exhibition space, which will now measure 2,000 square meters. To carry out this expansion, the basement has been adapted to house the municipal archive.
The works included the creation of new adapted bathrooms on the ground and first floors; damp-proofing the walls of the adjoining farmhouse; and strengthening structural elements such as the wooden beams.
