On June 22 the Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Hector Maiquez, and other representatives of the Consistory, has inaugurated the Municipal Stadium, in which the City has invested 800,000 euros. Specifically, a new soccer field has been built with artificial turf and lighting, changing rooms equipped with all the services and a marquee has been installed on the tribune of the soccer field that already existed.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the vice president of the Catalan Football Federation and territorial delegate, José Vives; members of the Board of the Salou Sports Union and the football school; as well as the Rugby and Softball clubs, which will also use this equipment.
During the inauguration, the mayor stressed that these works are "an important step to adapt and complete the network of municipal sports facilities, given the positive evolution of sport in Salou". Granados also recalled that in a short time Salou has been equipped with "two new sports pavilions, a nautical station and this playing field that we inaugurate today", in clear reference to the sports dynamism of the Salouen entities and the high level of occupation of the sports facilities.
In this sense, he added that the City Council "has responded to the demands and has given an adequate response to the sports movement of the society of Salouen," and, above all, "a clear and responsible commitment has been made to base sports, so that the values of the sports culture, the cohesion and the social participation are promoted, and healthy habits are promoted to the children and young people of the municipality ".
Granados also referred to sports projects developed as "important from the tourist point of view", since "they consolidate us as a reference destination for sports tourism nationally and internationally, providing and offering spaces and services adapted, sufficient and of quality, for the practice of the different specialties and sports modalities ".
Finally, Pere Granados pointed out that "it is the will of the government team to take forward the second phase in the next budget". Thus, the turf of field 11, the facilities of the services, the zone of offices and the bar will be changed. This second phase will be done in the exercise of the 2020 budget.
