Only squids are accepted and scored in the contest.
The competition will end on Sunday 27th at noon with the awarding of trophies on the Terrassa del Club Náutic. The prizes will be as follows: 1st, 2nd and 3rd, for the category of more than one crew member, trophy for the biggest squid -Club Náutic -; and trophy for the greatest number of squids caught - Societat de pesca de Salou. A commemorative souvenir will also be given to the rest of the participants.
The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, and the Councilor for Culture, Xavier Montalà, were present at the start of the competition and at the first departure of the 26 boats. Granados and Montalà gave a jacket as a gift to the crews and wished them luck and good fishing.
Squid fishing is mainly practiced when the first autumn colds arrive when this species approaches the coast and lasts until the first months of the year.
