This September, at the end of the existing contract with the concession company in charge of the service so far, the Salou City Council has assumed direct management of the blue parking areas. And the first measure has been to launch the Parking mobile application, which includes a super reduced rate for residents of 5 cents an hour, throughout the year, in addition to enjoying a free first hour of parking.
Salou shares this technology with the municipalities of Reus, Cambrils, Tarragona and Valls, and makes it possible for the user to pay by mobile phone only for the time they use the car park, being able to park in any blue zone of the capital of the Costa Dorada. The amount is paid directly from the application, so there is no need to go to the parking meter.
Not is it necessary to do any formalities to benefit from the super reduced rate, since the application includes a database with all the vehicles that pay the mechanical traction vehicle tax in Salou. The application is downloaded for free from the Google Play or Apple Store.
The application will also allow the use of electric vehicle charging stations, without having to request a physical card from the Salou City Council. You just have to scan the QR code to activate the station and allow charging. This service is free.
The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados; the councilor for General Services and New Technologies, Jesús Barragán, and the councilor for Citizen Security and Mobility, David González, have presented the new Parking application that, as the mayor has said, “allows us to promote better and more orderly mobility, we facilitate parking for residents and commercial activity, and we take a new step towards the goal of a sustainable and smart municipality".
Until now, residents had a bag of hours to park in the blue zone of Salou from October until the start of the tourist season.
