Salou and 7 other municipalities throughout Spain that make up the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of Sun and Beach (AMT) have held a videoconference with the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, in which they have presented various measures that should be part of of a National Recovery Plan for the Tourism Industry.
These measures go through various areas, among which the demand of the municipal representatives stands out to know when tourist destinations may be reopened, gradually and with health guarantees as healthy destinations.
In this sense, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has insisted that the recovery of tourism "now happens to be able to guarantee healthy and healthy destinations, and mobility of people without risk of contagion, by carrying out massive tests and the issuance of health certificates that allow normal movement ”.
The mayor also highlighted "the importance of revitalizing local commerce and the business fabric of tourist municipalities", exposing the case of Salou, "so that workers, small and medium-sized companies and discontinued self-employed and self-employed can get ahead".
Among other measures, the Alliance also calls for "social protection plans, with immediate aid measures for male and female workers; job maintenance, expanding ERTEs and applying flexibility measures; and aid in the form of official credits and loans, lines of financing and incentives for small and medium-sized companies and the self-employed and self-employed, in order to avoid the destruction of companies and jobs in the tourism industry ".
Faced with these demands, Minister Maroto made reference to the instruments that should allow opening the territories from a health point of view and also spoke of the indicators they will need to do so, safely, in a homogeneous way, everywhere.
Maroto, who defends "working with prudence, but taking steps", explained that at the European level everything possible is done to make the most appropriate decisions, always following sanitary criteria in order to provide security to the sector and tourists, an element which is key to restoring trust in destiny.
In fact, air and road tour operators are already preparing for when the "D" day arrives. Some of them have put their program on sale and have had good reservations, in a few days. However, it is the EU that must give authorization on the air issue; and the land borders of Spain and Portugal are essential for mobility by road and by train.
The Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of Sun and Beach (AMT) was born in 2017, thanks to the initiative of 8 pioneering tourist destinations in Spain: Adeje, Arona, Benidorm, Calvià, Lloret de Mar, Salou, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Torremolinos.
Its main objectives are the treatment of the problems that affect the financing of tourist municipalities and the commitment to the digitization of the sector, sustainability, accessibility, and cooperation between destinations.
