The mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has sent a letter to the Government of the Generalitat asking him to take up the proposals that the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of Sol y Playa (AMT) has addressed to the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto , to protect and reactivate the tourism sector in the face of the coronavirus crisis.
Granados has addressed the letter to the President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, and to the Ministries of Economy and History; Treball, Afers Socials i Famílies; i Company i Coneixement to ask them, within the framework of their competences, to take on the AMT proposals, “prioritizing, on the one hand, social care and, on the other, economic rescue for the recovery of tourism, which suffers a crisis without precedents ".
In the mass the mayor recalls that "in the face of the current situation of social and economic emergency generated by the health crisis, the destinations that make up the AMT deliver to the minister a document that includes a plan with 7 areas of action and a whole series of measures and proposals to plan and develop, through a Special Protection Plan for the Tourism Sector, given that in coastal tourist destinations the impact on their business and social fabric has been significant. "
In addition, according to the mayor of Salou "this plan requires the involvement and collaboration of all the competent administrations, as well as the private initiative, the social agents, the unions and employers; given that the proposed measures affect fiscal and labor aspects and financial, which are now essential for the maintenance of the economy and the tourism industry, and also to promote social and labor protection systems. " The objective is none other than to prevent the destruction of Salou's business fabric and the loss of jobs.
The AMT is made up of 8 of the most important sun and beach destinations in Spain: Adeje, Arona, Benidorm, Calvià, Lloret de Mar, Salou, San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Maspalomas) and Torremolinos.
