Environment begins the replacement of sand on Llarga and Llenguadets beaches

Salou. Costa Dorada. 29 May 2018. The replacement works of the sand of Llarga and Llenguadets beaches, in the municipality of Salou, began last week. The action consists in transferring sediments accumulated in the beach of Ponent to the most affected by the storms of this past winter that have caused the loss of sand in the affected places. Thus, after the talks between the local administration and that of Spain, it has been agreed to transfer 5,000m3 of sand to provide more width for this pair of beaches. The works consist of the extraction of the sand from Ponent beach, at the height of the nautical base where the sediments have accumulated due to the sea currents. At this point then, where the beach has grown many meters wide will act reducing the area of ​​sand and will move with trucks to the Llarga and Llenguadets. In addition, there will also be an extraction of the algae that accumulate in Ponent beach to place them at the base of the dunes of the Llarga to improve its stability and strengthen its structure.

The mayor, Pere Granados, accompanied by the Councilor of Beaches, Julia Gomez, and municipal technicians and those of the Government Subdelegation have paid a visit to the area where they are acting to determine the scope of work that began in the past Thursday, May 24 and which is expected to end on June 4. Both have highlighted the importance of these jobs to ensure better conditions for both bathers and companies that develop their seasonal work. The transfer of the sand will be carried out with trucks while, and subsequently, the sand will be distributed on the beach of Llenguadets with lighter machinery due to the characteristics and dimensions of the cove; a cost this last one, that will assume the City council of Salou.
