Salou. Costa Dorada. 28 September 2021.
The Corpinnat trademark has chosen Salou to present itself in the province of Tarragona, in the first of the events planned to become known in the four Catalan provincial demarcations. In the incomparable setting of Torre Vella, the main manufacturing companies have offered a tasting of their best sparkling wines.
Corpinnat was born in 2017 as a collective trademark registered in the European Union, owned by the Associació de Viticultors i Elaboradors CORPINNAT (AVEC), registered the same year. 11 sparkling wine makers are part of which are the renowned brands Gramona, Llopart, Nadal, Recaredo, Sabaté i Coca, and Torelló, as founders of the association.
The objective of the association and the Corpinnat trademark is to produce prestigious sparkling wines, made mainly with grapes from a specific and delimited area of Alt i Baix Penedès, Alt Camp, Anoia and Baix Llobregat. In addition, they are 100% organic sparkling wines (certified), with grapes of historical varieties, harvested only by hand, and sparkling wines made with long aging of more than 18 months in the cellar, even reaching 30 months of aging or more.
In addition, Corpinnat producers are committed to the profession of producer (all the brand's sparkling wines are made on the respective property) and that of winegrower, with guaranteed minimum prices for grapes and three-year contracts.
In the presentation of the brand, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, briefly reviewed the history of Salou and its connection in the past with the world of wine, using the municipality's place names as an example, such as Cala Vinya or the Parellada section, which It is also the name of a variety of grape used to make sparkling wines.
Currently, quality gastronomy is a clear bet of Salou to enrich its tourist offer and, from this perspective, Granados has made a parallel with wine tourism as a powerful tourist product in the country. The mayor of Salou ended his speech by congratulating the promoters of the initiative for his bravery in creating the Corpinnat trademark.
For his part, the vice president of the Associació de Viticultors i Elaboradors CORPINNAT, Xavier Nadal, explained the history of the commercial brand, the commitments of the processors and winemakers to make it grow and the basic numbers of Corpinnat, which are:
- 23,000 hectares of production
- 62 references
- 1.7 million bottles produced in 2020
- 20% of production is exported to 55 countries
- 223 direct jobs
The name of the brand comes from two concepts: Cor (heart), referring to the territory where the first sparkling wines in Spain began to be made, more than 130 years ago; and Pinnat, which comes from the etymological root Pinnae, which refers to the origin of the Penedès toponym, documented as early as the 10th century as Penetense. Currently the Corpinnat trademark, in addition to the founders, also includes the Can Feixes, Júlia Bernet, Mas Candí, Can Descregut i Pardas.
