The beaches of Vilafortuny-l'Esquirol, Cavet and Prat d'en Fores in Cambrils, receive the Blue Flag

Cambrils. Costa Dorada. The Councillor Carme Cros received the Blue Flag award in 2011 awarded to three beaches of Cambrils: Vilafortuny-l'Esquirol, Cavet and Prat d´en Fores. The councilor said that the Council will continue to work not only to keep the three flags but also to improve and achieve more. The delivery took place on Sunday 19 June 2011 l'Ametlla de Mar, in a ceremony presided by the Minister for Planning and Sustainability, Luis Recoder. The ceremony was also attended by the president of the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (eco), Jose Ramon Sanchez Moro, director of the Catalan Water Leonard Carcolé, the President of the Catalan Association of Tourist Marinas and Catalonia, Tomas Gallart, mayor of L'Ametlla de Mar, Andreu Marti, among other officials. In total, 86 beaches have been awarded (2 more than last year) and 22 ports of Catalonia (3 more than in 2010) a total of 43 municipalities. Recoder stressed the importance of these awards, which are located off the coast of Catalonia and one of the most important tourist destinations in the southern Mediterranean. However, the Minister noted that the condition of the beaches is the result of the adoption of civic attitudes persevering, to prevent the dumping of waste on beaches and acting on the source of waste generation. Not surprisingly, it is noteworthy that in recent years have seen a decline in the volume of waste collected at the coastline (between 2003 and 2010 registered a decrease of 77%), thanks to performances at the source ( closure of landfills, improved sanitation systems, cleaning and recovery section of the drainage channels, among others) and to promote behaviors that generate a responsible attitude on the beach.   The distinctive blue flags awarded by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer (eco), but has enjoyed the collaboration of the Catalan Water Agency, which is responsible for coordinating information gathering and evaluating all candidates.
