Description

One of three of its kind to exist around the world, the museum is entitled: "The man, his motivation and his destiny." Stresses the central monolith. It also contains an interesting botanical collection.


Explanation

The Prince's Gardens are located in the garden area of ​​the old spa Porcar, which had its origins in the first third of the s. Century, when the owner of the land, Jaume Tio i Noah, he built a modest spa.

This same enclosure, documented in medieval times as the property of the convent of Santa Clara, was occupied by the Salesian religious for most of the twentieth century, and eventually was acquired by the city of Tortosa in 1970. In 1989, the city council approved the proposal from the Fundación José Celma Prieto to make a sculpture museum in the old spa romantic gardens, following a visit by the sculptor Santiago de Santiago, the only artist commissioned to carry out the project. The twenty-four sculptural groups were covered by the aforementioned foundation. The Gardens and the Museum of Outdoor sculptures were opened by the Prince of Asturias and Girona, the September 23, 1991.

Since then, they have become an important cultural attraction. Located in the middle of a privileged environment, surrounded by the northeast side of the Suda, the outposts of San Juan, the wall that built the city in the fourteenth century Jewry and enrich the tourist offer of the town of Tortosa and historical heritage and artistic and natural.
